The purpose of the Learning Challenge Grant Program is to facilitate teaching and learning at Sinclair Community College. Projects focusing on examining new pedagogical methods, using new methods, trying new technologies, using innovative curricular design and other types of innovative projects will be considered. The purpose of these grants is to assist full-time tenured or tenure track faculty in exploring new pedagogical methods and/or new tools to increase student success and completion.

Grants will be awarded for up to $6,000 depending on the scope and complexity of the proposal. These funds may support special services agreements, materials, software, supplies, stipends for adjunct faculty, and limited travel for benchmarking and training.

Grants awarded for improving and expanding student learning and success by developing courses that rely on open education resources (OER), flipped course design and/or implementation of ePortfolios. These grants award $4,500 to compensate faculty for developing the new course.

"OER are teaching, learning and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license that permits their free use or re-purposing by others. Open educational resources include full courses, course materials, modules, textbooks, streaming videos, tests, software, and any other tools, materials or techniques used to support access to knowledge." ~William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, 2008

Funds must be expended by the end of the fiscal year (there are no exceptions). Recipients will be expected to present the results of their project to the college via a forum sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning. The Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning will work with each group of grant recipients to plan for how they will disseminate the results of their project.
