A track is similar to taking a graduate course in teaching and learning. Each track consists of at least three two or three-hour workshops per term. Tracks are offered on these subjects:
Student Engagement -At Sinclair Community College, we are committed to student success and retention. This track explores the importance of student engagement and offers opportunities for faculty to discuss and learn new approaches and techniques which help keep our students engaged not only in the classroom, but in the community as well.
Curriculum and Assessment - The foundation of academics at Sinclair Community College is built upon strong curriculum and assessment techniques. This track focuses on the importance of assessment at various levels at our institution.
Mindfulness - This series of workshops will take participants on a six-week journey into the subjective, first-person experience on Mind-Body Stress-Reduction as a fundamental building block for the exploration of contemplative methods in higher education. A triad of contemplative practices will be embedded in the series: Mindfulness Meditation, Gentle Yoga, and Guided Visual/Sensory Imagery. We will refer to this as the "Mindfulness Triad."
Communication Across the Curriculum - This series of four two-hour workshops is designed to offer effective strategies that teachers can use to improve their classroom presentations, as well as their students individual, partner, and group projects and presentations.
Diversity and Inclusion - As part of Sinclair Community College's commitment to diversity, this track is aimed at helping faculty and staff explore the topics of diversity and inclusion on our campus. In alignment with the Diversity Mission of Sinclair Community College, this track serves as a catalyst for cultural competency, social justice and equity within the institution, and the communities with which this institution interacts. (See the Diversity Mission at http://www.sinclair.edu/student-life/diversity-on-campus/)
Integrating Technology - This track is focused on assisting the faculty member with making the connection between pedagogical practice and the use of technology. The track consists of two required and four elective courses taken throughout the year. The elective workshops are determined based on the participant's idea for developing a learning object that utilizes technology. This track is flexible, and during the first session participants will complete a learning plan and register for the workshops that best meet their needs to complete the rest of the track.
Office Tools for a Better Life - The workshops in this track are all designed to reinforce the basics of Microsoft Office applications and introduce faculty and staff to tricks and tools to make life in the office and classroom easier. Track consists of six, three-hour workshops on Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, OneDrive, and Word.
