Faculty Recognition Events

The Center for Teaching and Learning coordinates many of the major teaching awards available at Sinclair Community College. The Provost's Office and the Center for Teaching and Learning host an annual faculty recognition event in September to recognize and celebrate teaching excellence. Additionally, the Center for Teaching and Learning hosts an annual recognition event each year to thank faculty and staff who volunteer countless hours to support the work of the CTL. We appreciate the amount of time and service so many faculty and staff give to support student success on this campus.

Faculty Recognitions

League for Innovation Teaching Excellence Award is our college's highest recognition of outstanding accomplishments in teaching. All tenured and tenure-track Sinclair faculty members who have completed at least four years of service in a tenured or tenure-track faculty position are eligible to be nominated by their department chair or division dean. There is no limit on the number of nominations that may be submitted per division. However, no more than two faculty members will be selected from each division. Faculty nominees who were not selected last year may resubmit an updated nomination form. The Excellence Award Academy (past two years of previous award winners) serves as the selection committee. The Southern Ohio Consortium of Higher Education (SOCHE) Teaching Excellence Award is awarded annually to one faculty member from each division. All tenured or tenure-track faculty who have completed at least one full year and have not started their fifth year in their faculty position (must be in second, third or fourth year of teaching) are eligible to be nominated by their department chair or division dean. Faculty members are encouraged to recommend colleagues to the chair or dean for this award. The SOCHE Academy (past two years of previous award winners) serves as the selection committee.

The Adjunct Faculty of the Year Award is awarded annually to one adjunct faculty member from each division and an overall winner is selected as Adjunct Faculty of the Year. All adjunct (not annually contracted) faculty who have completed at least one full year in an adjunct position are eligible to be nominated by their department chair.

The Excellence in Course Related Service Learning Faculty Award is awarded annually to two faculty members, one to a full-time (tenured, tenure-track or annually contracted) faculty and one to a adjunct faculty. Nominations will be evaluated on how well the candidate meets the criteria in addition to letters of recommendation from any or all of the following:

  • Department chair or division dean
  • A Sinclair Community College student who has participated in course related service learning
  • Representative of a community organization
  • Colleague who has knowledge of nominee's commitment to course related service learning

Contact Service Learning Coordinator David Bodary for more information.

The Honors Faculty of the Year Award is awarded annually to one faculty member in the college. Honors Students nominate faculty with whom they have taken Honors courses during the school year. The nominations are submitted by March 15 for an anonymous peer review by the Honors Council, who then votes on the winning faculty. The faculty member is then notified in the month of April.

The Innovation of the Year Award is awarded annually to faculty and/or staff. Sinclair Community College has participated in the League's Innovation of the Year Award since 1989. An Innovation of the Year project or program reflect capstone achievements and the continuing renewal of the spirit of innovation and experimentation upon which the League was founded. It is one that fits with the culture of the college while aligning with at least one of Sinclair's core strategies. An Innovation of the Year project should:

  • Be original and creative
  • Be repeatable at Sinclair or other colleges
  • Be aligned with at least one of Sinclair's core strategies
  • Be operational no more than five years
  • Not be submitted more than twice within a five year period

For more information, contact Amanda M. Romero, Chair, Innovation of the Year Committee. A list of recent recipients is posted at https://www.sinclair.edu/about/offices/provost/innovation-of-the-year/past-recipients/.

The U.S. Professor of the Year Program was discontinued by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in July 2017.
